Harworth Phase Two Set to Commence

March 4, 2015

Following approval of the scheme by both Nottinghamshire County Council and the Environment Agency phase two of the restoration of Harworth Spoil tip is due to commence.

Areas of bare spoil around the perimeter of the site will be treated with lime wastes to reduce acidity in adjacent watercourses, whilst other areas will be treated with suitable organic materials to green up bare areas and grow energy crops. The project is likely to continue for several months and will include the first use of anaerobic digestate from the new waste recycling facility operated by Shanks Waste Management, treating materials sourced from Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham Councils.
