The 4R Group have been active in the organics recycling industry for over 16 years. Our entry focused on how our day to day work, specialising in both land and waste management champions the circular economy through recycling quality organics and carbon back to UK soils. It’s a pinnacle moment in organics recycling, and work like ours is vital to help reach our nations environmental goals, through improving soil health, reducing volumes of waste in landfill and incinerators and reducing reliance on carbon-intensive artificial fertilisers.

Our dedicated team focus on connecting the needs of the soil and crops, matching them with waste-derived organics, such as composts and digestates to maximise organic matter inputs and balance the addition of crop nutrients. Our business promotes sustainable land management and innovative ways to re-use nutrients and organic matter for the benefit of UK agriculture.

Like all organics recycling businesses we get hands-on, managing multiple agricultural contracts and running large-scale land restoration projects. But we also have an in-house team of soil and plant scientists, and a dedicated farm support team who specialise in nutrient management planning and farm assurance. We support R&D through in-house research and trials and our academic links through CASE partnership. We invest significantly in training our core team in a multitude of disciplines including FACTS (Fertiliser Advisers Certification and Training Scheme) and Wamitab. This assures a high quality of service under our ISO and Achilles accredited management systems.

Part of our business also focuses on land restoration, using organic materials for ecological benefit under Environmental Permitting Regulations to create soils where natural soil resources are severely depleted or in some cases completely absent. In recent months, we have successfully restored over 100 Ha of depleted land, creating amenity green space on former colliery spoil tips and mineral excavations across the UK. The circular principles of our work was recognised by the Brownfield Briefing Awards in 2021. This adds to our expanding portfolio of land restoration, completing over 20 different sites and phases across the UK in the past years and increasing local biodiversity.

Everything that we do at the 4R Group is driven by the need for sustainability. We promote the circular economy, the waste hierarchy, and use valuable wastes and by-products for agricultural and ecological benefit to replace virgin or manufactured fertilisers.

We’d like to congratulate the other finalists and thank Let’s Recycle for running a brilliant awards ceremony and to CRJ Services who sponsored our category. Thank you
