Hatfield Restoration Work Stalled

The 4R Group would like to apologise to local residents and any other interested parties for our failure to complete the restoration of the spoil tips at the Hatfield former Colliery.

Since the liquidation of Hatfield Colliery Partnership Ltd the ownership and management of the site has been complex and 4R Group has had numerous hurdles to overcome to allow us to continue the works.

Access to the site has until recently been controlled by the Coal Authority who have been unwilling to allow us to operate whilst they are working on the site due to Health and Safety concerns. In addition a charge holder over the site (ING Bank N.V) has via their agent (Hargreaves Services UK Ltd), written to inform us they do not wish us to continue with the restoration works.

We have sought assistance from the Environment Agency to remove the log jam but to date they have been unable to help us finish the projects.

This has meant we have been unable to complete the works which we started and have consent from the Environment Agency to continue. Until this issue can be resolved the bare areas of the site will unfortunately remain as they are at present, which in our view is a detriment to the local amenity and area.
